“And there coming to meet them was Jesus.” When Mary and the other women leave the tomb, they are met and greeted by Jesus, the Risen Christ! When we seek Jesus, he comes to us, too. The Risen Christ always recognises, gathers, makes connections and offers Hesed, loving kindness. “Do not be afraid”, he says. Listen, as Jesus says this to me.
Jesus has brought not vengeance and anger from his tomb, but love. This love promises that we, too, will be drawn into oneness with our Trinitarian God—such a gift. Mary Magdalene recognises the Risen Christ as he says her name, “Mary” (John 20:15). Let us listen to Jesus speak our own names in love, “(my name)”. Stay a moment to respond to Jesus.
Through his life, death and resurrection, Jesus has made a new
covenant with God’s creation. Covenant means ‘coming together’. In Jesus humanity and divinity are one, and we, in our humanity, are invited into oneness with God. Jesus became human so we can become divine!
Jesus dies in love, rises in love and teaches us the most important commandment in the New Covenant, love God and love our neighbour as ourselves. This is God’s message that Jesus brings—meet me! You are my brothers and sisters.
Bringing love into the world brings us to meet God. Our neighbours are part of how we come to God, and we are part of how they come to God. We all belong to God, to each other and to all of creation. Love is for all. It is in our interconnectedness of love that we participate in the building of God’s reign of peace and joy.
We are already on the journey to wholeness, infinite love and indescribable joy! “We are alleluia people,
alleluia is our cry,” says Augustine of Hippo. Christ is risen! Let us gratefully fall before him and clasp his feet.
What do I see, hear, think, feel and believe as I hear Jesus speak my name? What do I feel called to be, to live? What motivates my speaking, thinking and acting? How can I live what I believe?
