As I was preparing these reflections and considering Jesus' posture in this text, the question above struck me.
Jesus had been walking alongside the two disciples, a stranger to them. He heard them talking and surely noticed how sad they both were. He asked them, “What are you discussing together as you walk
along?” Jesus was not only curious about their conversation but also about their feelings.
I was really struck by this because I so often forget that Jesus cares about how I feel. So often, prayer time consists of us talking to and at Jesus about those things we are anxious about or need assistance with. How often do we really open our hearts and share with Jesus how we truly feel? How often do we sit and wonder with
God?
Jesus is interested in sharing our lives. Yes, he knows our thoughts. What he really wants is a connection and friendship with us: a friendship that transcends rote prayers and traditions; one that is free and honest, vulnerable and authentic.
How would you describe your relationship with Jesus?
How can
you invite Jesus into your life in a new way?
