In the New Testament, Jesus asks or prays to the Father in a number of important moments. Luke’s Gospel repeatedly shows us that Jesus withdrew into the wilderness to pray. This shows us Jesus' commitment to prayer (Luke 5:16). Jesus taught us the Lord’s Prayer, which consists of requests to the Father.
In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus prays to the Father, showing us his reliance on God during a sorrowful time. He prayed before his arrest as well, expressing his anguish honestly to God and begging for strength to be able to drink from his cup.
At the raising of Lazarus, Jesus looked up and prayed. Jesus thanked God in advance for what the Father was about to do. Jesus shows us that he had confidence that
God always heard his prayers.
Jesus reminds us today about the power of prayer and faith. He tells us that he will ask the Father and the Father will grant his request, for our sake. Encouraging us to do the same as well, to ask in faith and trust that the Father will hear our prayers.
