What is true and what is not in our world today? It seems every day something happens and shakes our notion of truth. Can we agree on one truth for our lives and the entire world, or is truth relative and shaped by our experiences and how we interpret those?
St Paul, in his letter to the Philippians, is
calling us to seek first whatever is true. What is true? How do we know what we are seeking is true? How do we discern truth from untruths or lies? The Holy Spirit is often called the Spirit of Truth; Jesus tells us that the world, our world, cannot accept this spirit because the world does not see this Spirit of Truth or know him.
Jesus continues to say we know this Spirit of truth. We know him because he remains
with us. This is both comforting and challenging. While the world might be confused about the truth, we should not be; Jesus is with us.
Sit quietly with Jesus today, and look at the world together: See the people of the world in their diversity.
Listen to what they are saying, how they speak to one another.
Consider
what the people are doing.
As you look at the world, do you see yourself?
What might the Spirit of truth be inviting you to notice in the world, or about yourself?
Be open to the working of the Spirit of Truth as you pray and reflect.
