In Matthew 28, we hear how the disciples gather on the mountain in Galilee and worship the risen Jesus, “but some doubted”.
This doubt is such a human response. The disciples encounter Jesus with both faith and uncertainty. Matthew shows how authentic discipleship is not a perfect certainty. Rather, it
coexists with questions and feelings of anxiety and inadequacy. In Acts 1:6-7, Jesus doesn’t answer the disciples' questions but tells them they don't need to know everything. It is set by God.
Jesus gathered a group of people around him, his disciples. They were not perfect. Each came with their own gifts and their own limitations. They were human, yet Jesus chose them to follow him, and Jesus loved each one of
them. And Jesus sent the disciples to continue the work he began while on earth.
So, too, we are called by God and loved by God for our unique gifts, as well as our imperfections. As we reflected yesterday, we are invited to continually grow and mature, each on our own journey, walked in our own way, with God.
God invited us to
come as we are.
