Jesus breathes his Spirit upon the disciples. But what does it mean to be guided by the Spirit, or to live under the influence of the Spirit?
St Ignatius believed that God works within us to deepen our faith, hope and love. Ignatian spirituality also encourages us to pay attention to movements within our
hearts: moments of gratitude, desires to serve others, or invitations to offer our gifts generously. These can be signs of God at work within us.
To be led by the Spirit, then, is to allow ourselves to be drawn by these movements of grace — toward gratitude, generosity, service and love. What we have freely received from God, we are invited to offer back in service to others, to the community, and to God
himself.
As we continue through this season of Pentecost, perhaps we can ask ourselves:
What am I most grateful for today?
Where is that gratitude inviting me to give of myself more generously?
