What momentous, important and significant words Jesus uses at the end of his instruction to go! He sums up, in one small sentence, why they should go and how they should go.
He is saying, “Go willingly. Go spontaneously and without hesitation. Go without hindrance.”
Because you are already abundantly receiving the healing, the new life, the joy and the teaching I am generously giving you, I want you to go and share what you have freely, open-handedly and big-heartedly with others.
Notice that these words are an instruction, not a request. They are like the final words of a coach to his team, just before they leave
the locker room to face the opposing team. They are an order, but they also suggest a sense of victory already won. What ensures victory for the disciples is the free-flowing love from Jesus to them and from them to God’s people. We acknowledge that we receive freely. We have written songs about freely receiving and freely giving, but do we do it? Do we behave as those who have freely received?
