God reveals the divine truths to “little children”: those with childlike faith, the marginalised, and those who are humble and depend on him.
Later in St Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus teaches that greatness in God’s Kingdom is based on our childlike humility rather than on great words, profound works, or brilliant
wisdom. “I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.” (Matthew 18:3)
If we are childlike in our faith, we are open to being taught, to learning, and to implementing these lessons into our lives. And, like children, all “these things” will be a wonder! We will be excited, interested and eager to play a part in all that God offers us. I find it sad
that, as adults, we have lost the spontaneity and joy of childhood, that we need scientific or logical explanations for everything, and that we become jaded because of our experiences.
What does it look like to be childlike in your faith?
What would it mean for me to receive God's love with the openness of a child?
How has
adulthood made it harder—or perhaps easier—for me to trust God?
