“Jesus then took the loaves.. and the fish.. and when he had given thanks, he distributed them” to this huge crowd. Jesus again turns to God and gives thanks for that which the young boy shared. The miracle combined the sharing of the little bit the people had with the utter generosity of God through his Son. There was more than enough for
all.
God’s bounty to us is released by our sharing with one another, particularly when there is great need and for those most oppressed. We know the need in our country at the moment has been magnified by both the pandemic and the violence. In turning to God, we let go of ourselves, even if momentarily, and see God’s family and its needs with God’s
eyes.
Imagine this picture now. God is amongst all of God’s children. We all come as we are, in all our giftedness and weakness, in all our differences, with our gifts. Together, this will be all we need. We are invited to be seated in groups throughout the world, seated in the beauty of creation at the banquet of our God. We look around and recognise that we are
all guests of God’s hospitality, invited to share the gifts of God’s creation. God provides enough for all when we share.
What is my role in this family of which I am part? What can I share with those in need in a way that supplies an immediate need and empowers the recipients to keep their dignity, provide for themselves and in time to have sufficient to be able to share too?
