Jesus teaches us that we have to lose our lives for his sake, and for the sake of the gospel, in order to save it. What a paradox! How do we lose our lives to save them? Jesus, by his example and word, teaches us that to be his disciples, we need to let go of expectations of wealth, grandeur and power as the meaning and purpose of life. We participate in the life of God by “denying ourselves, taking up our crosses and following Jesus”. In Galatians 5:13, Paul tells us, “..you were called to
be free; do not use your freedom as an opening to self-indulgence, but be servants to one another in love...”
Our lives have meaning and purpose when we, the Body of Christ, truly follow the Son of Man in lives of service. Jesus, the Christ, is our Creator, our Sustainer and our Redeemer, Col. 1:15-20. Our invitation is to be co-creators, co-sustainers and co-redeemers. We are part of something – not just looking in. All of Creation reveals God and is connected. Our attitudes and actions count! Our mission continues Jesus’ as we participate in the building up of our world in love. We carry
responsibility for the future of our world, both individually and collectively. Very often, it is the institutions where the deepest damage to humanity and the environment occurs. How do I keep myself informed? What are the areas of concern for me?
What prophetic role can I play in recognising where the ‘status quo’ is not acceptable and then in voice and action make a difference? How can I serve today and participate in God’s mission to draw us to intimate union?
