“Amen, I say to you, whoever does not accept the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it.” Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.”

Jesus is welcoming the children, embracing them and blessing them. What is it about a child that Jesus calls us to model? How is a child an example to us of how to come to Jesus? We are called to be child-like in order to enter the kingdom of God. What does this mean?

Children are dependent on us as adults for love, care and protection. Children can be referred to as being helpless. When a child asks for help, we step in. The same can be said of Jesus. When we realise our helplessness and start to depend on him, we are blessed abundantly.

Jesus uses the blessings of children and the way they approach him for blessings as an example of how we should come to him. We need to go to Jesus in our weakness and helplessness, knowing that we are undeserving.

“Then he embraced them and blessed them, placing his hands on them.” Jesus embraced them. He held them tight and secure in His arms. Children are helpless and needy. They can be demanding and wanting something from you. Children are to Jesus just those who are poor, starving, sick, weak and helpless. He embraces them all and treats them with love and kindness. He blesses them.
Today and in the weeks ahead, remember to approach Jesus as a child would. Be open to depending on him, realise your helplessness and receive the blessing he has for you.

As believers, we must always remember that how we receive and treat others is how we treat Christ. So how are you treating Christ these days?

Dear God,

Being child-like is not easy.

We like to think we are not needy

and dependent, that we are strong

and self-sufficient.

Remind us that to receive

your blessings, we need

to realise our helplessness

and lean on you.

Healing your Soul Retreat

9-11 November 2021

This preached retreat will take place at St Ignatius House Auckland Park, Johannesburg. Using scripture, inspired writings and poetry, Fr Russell Pollitt SJ will guide you in reflecting where you need healing and how God heals.

This retreat is for you if you are:

●   Looking to slow down, relax and find healing.
●   Yearning for a deeper connection with God, who is our healer.
●   Working too hard.
●   Wanting to get in touch with yourself.
●   Seeking space and time to rest and reflect in a beautiful setting.

There will be a gentle rhythm, with plenty of time for personal reflection and rest. The beautiful gardens, silence and inspiring view will help you to relax and seek the healing you desire.

There are two options for this retreat:
You can live-in at our self-catering retreat centre. The rate for this option is R3250 (discounted to R3000 if you pay before 22 October 2021). You will be accommodated in en-suite rooms that will give you the space and time you need to enter into this time of reflection. Included in the price is the accommodation, use of the facilities, presentation, one-on-one consultation and the printed materials of the retreat.

You can also choose to live at home and come in daily. The rate for this option is R1500. Included in the price is the use of the facilities, presentation and printed material of the retreat.

The daily structure will be: an input at 09h30, a mediation at 12h30, an input at 15h00 and the celebration of the Eucharist at 18h00.
