“Peter began to say to him, 'Look, we have left everything and followed you.' Jesus said, 'Truly I tell you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields, for my sake and for the sake of the good news, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this age-houses, brothers and sisters, mothers
and children, and fields, with persecutions-and in the age to come eternal life'.”
~ Mark 10:28-30 ~
Peter tells Jesus that they have left everything and followed Jesus. Jesus reassures Peter that in doing so, they will receive eternal life.
Our society reinforces that wealth and possessions give us status and security, that through having more, we will be better, safer more satisfied with life. We have grown up with values about money, wealth and our worldly status.
Spend a moment writing down what dominant messages about wealth or possessions are being reinforced for you every day?
This scripture is an invitation to simplicity, the beginning of a process to be free. Jesus invites the rich man not to be so possessed by his wealth. Simplicity in our world can be scary, seen as a loss. How might we see simplicity as freedom, the opening up for spending our time and money on what matters most?
Ask yourself today- How do I want to be free?

Prayer of Abundance
I know that I am cared for by an Abundant Provider.
I choose to be grateful and trusting.
I believe I have enough and that what I need will always be provided.
I choose to be content and generous.
I know that my choices matter for myself, for others and for future generations.
Help me to live consciously and creatively, celebrating signs of Your new creation that is present and coming.
Generous Creator, who made me to seek the greater good of Your kingdom,
Guide me to use my time, talents and resources to pursue what matters most.
Teach me to be free, to live without worry, fear or greed in the freedom of Your abundance.
Give me daily bread, as I share with those in need.
Thank you for the precious gift of life!
