“At the root of desperate poverty, human trafficking, political violence and global inequity is a sense of scarcity and competition fuelled by greed—the inordinate desire to possess wealth, goods or objects of abstract value far beyond the dictates of basic survival or comfort.”
Mark Scandrette.
Our world is driven by a sense of scarcity and the never-ending feeling of needing more. We need to be making conscious choices to resist these impulses if we are to change the state of things. Our faith needs to be as practical and real as how we spend our time and money.
Imagine, for a moment. You are this young rich man. Imagine the road that leads you to Jesus, the feeling you have meeting him. What is the question you have to bring to him? How does Jesus look at you?
This scripture allows us to reflect on what we might be holding onto that distract us from our spiritual journey.
Take a silent moment and name the things you are grateful for. How has God provided for you already?
